Approximately 22, 000 or ten percent of Toronto’s Jewish community currently live at or below the poverty line. Paying the rent and ensuring the electricity bill is paid, often must take precedence over Passover food. Michael is one of those in the Greater Toronto community facing personal challenges. Struggling with a mental illness as well as a drug addiction, Michael is currently unemployed and barely able to keep his one-bedroom apartment.
Fortunately Michael doesn’t have to make the choice between rent or food. Through Jewish Family and Child (JF&CS) - a United Jewish Appeal partner agency, Michael and many like him will receive extra financial assistance this Passover. Because when it comes to Passover, all Jews deserve the opportunity to celebrate.
