One night at the movies can make a difference for Jewish education at the DJC!
The Danforth Jewish Circle created the Claudia Bali Endowment to help ensure the sustainability of its educational programming and the subsidies it provides to the families and children who want a Jewish education, but who need assistance with tuition.
A screening has been planned in partnership with the Toronto Jewish Film Festival, on Monday May 6, which will be followed by a question and answer session with one of the filmmakers and a reception. Refreshments will be served.
Our feature film is Curtiz by the young Swiss-Hungarian director Tamas Yvan Topolánszky and was the winner of the Grand Prix des Amerique in 2018. It tells a behind-the-scenes story of one of the world’s greatest and most beloved films, Casablanca. The story:
It’s 1942, America’s finally entered WWII and Warner Brothers is thinking of an anti-Nazi film. They recruit Michael Curtiz, a Jewish Hungarian-born American film director, who struggles to make a film with no clear ending while coping with family caught in Europe, his relationship with an estranged daughter and an over-zealous government agent.
