Each year during the summer months, the weekly cycle of Torah readings is drawn from the book of Numbers (sefer Bemidbar). This book of the Torah focuses on the Israelites’ journeys in the wilderness, their struggles and triumphs and their formation as a people of the covenant. Learn about Mitzvahs and Maisehs - The relationship between lore and law in Numbers; Leadership and Challenges and Numbers and Jewish Time - Setting the stage for holy day drama. Together we will study three major themes in Numbers: how stories influence society, how leaders deal with challenges to their authority, and how the cycle of time intersects with the progress of history.
