During these unprecedented times, binge watching and streaming shows has been a popular diversion. Join Rabbi Jordan Shaner as we explore the Jewish themes of some of Netflix most popular shows, Unorthodox, Fauda and Russian Doll. Each program will feature a discussion about one series through the lens of Judaism and text with a focus on specific episodes and scenes. Unorthodox, Netflix Series. Explore the tension between the individual and community in religious Jewish life. Esty, a young, Hasidic Jewish woman plans to leave her husband and her community and start a new life. Delve into the key themes of the show including gender roles, religious and the place of individuals in a communal system.
