We are excited to announce a last-minute concert with Toronto's own Beyond the Pale joined by the amazing Israeli Yiddish vocalist Vira Lozinsky. After collaborating with her last month at the Jewish Culture Festival in Copenhagen, we were thrilled to learn she’d be in North America this July and we’ve managed to get her here. Don’t miss this rare and special event!
Kindly RSVP to the Beth Tzedec office at 416-781-3511 or info@beth-tzedec.org.
Tickets are $10, available at the door only.
Vira Lozinsky, one of today's outstanding Yiddish singers, blends her singing with a variety of musical styles from East European folk (Klezmer, Gypsy, Romanian, Russian) to South American Tangos. Her repertoire includes a new material , as well as Yiddish folk songs, songs of Bessarabian, Romanian and Polish Jewish poets, and of classical and modern Yiddish poets. An enchanting performer in every way, Vira’s mellifluous alto voice is powerful, warm, expressive, and pure.
Beyond the Pale—For 21 years Toronto’s Beyond the Pale has been making its distinctive brand of boundary-busting Eurofolk fusion. Inspired by Klezmer and Balkan styles but influenced by everything from jazz and classical music to bluegrass, new-grass and reggae, their stellar musicianship, meticulous dynamics, adventurous compositions, and inventive arrangements of traditional material make them one of Canada’s most innovative acoustic ensembles. Three-time Canadian Folk Music Award winners, BTP has performed at festivals, theatres, and clubs across Canada, the U.S., Europe, Australia and Brazil.
