Reflections of a Lost Poet: The Life and Works of Itsik Manger

Following his triumphant run as Willy Loman in the Yiddish version of Death of a Salesman at the 2016 Ashkenaz Festival, renowned Yiddish theatre actor Avi Hoffman returns to the festival with a serio-comic monologue tracing the life and times of Itsik Manger, one of the greatest Yiddish poets of all time. Through his songs and poems, we discover the joy and anguish of this Czernowitz-born poet and playwright who became a literary sensation in 1930s Warsaw and lived through the best and worst of times.

One of this generation’s leading Yiddish actors, Avi Hoffman’s illustrious career includes hundreds of stage and television roles. As a performer, he is perhaps best known for his award-winning one-man shows “Too Jewish?,” “Too Jewish, Too!” and “Still Jewish After All These Years.” Avi has performed all over the world, has numerous acting, directing and producing credits and has received multiple awards and nominations for his achievements, including a 2015 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Willy Loman in the Yiddish Death of a Salesman.
