Soundstreams presents “Steve Reich’s Different Trains: Bearing Musical Witness to the Holocaust,” a free forum to be held at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre, Room 318, on Tuesday, January 22.

Join speakers Lawrence Cherney, Soundstreams Artistic Director and Russell Hartenberger, Percussionist, Founding Member Steve Reich Ensemble, in discussion as they pose the question: “Does musical reflection foster healing while fostering remembrance?”

Our discussion will explore the ways in which Different Trains bears musical witness to traumatic memory and aims to illuminate how Reich has chosen to speak about the unspeakable through this work. The evening will include audio and video examples drawn both from his source material and from the work itself.
