Temple Sinai Young Families Craft Corner - There’s Always Something from Nothing!
Who is familiar with the wonderful story called Something From Nothing by Phoebe Gilman? It is a great story that we will read together. There is always something we can make from nothing around our homes, including a sock! Choose one or two, and create a stuffed animal of your choice -- a puppy, a frog, an alien, or even a snake! Adult assistance will be required.
Here’s what you will need: A sock or stocking, above ankle length; Buttons or beads, for a nose and eyes; Thread; A hot glue gun or a needle; Cotton batting or balls (something to stuff); A bit of extra fabric or felt for ears; A permanent marker. Decorations may include; ribbons, lace, yarn, felt, additional fabric, pipe cleaners. Phoebe Gilman was an award winning Canadian author, who wrote Something From Nothing, and many more. She was born in New York, and lived in Toronto. Phoebe taught at the Ontario College of Art, and started publishing children’s books in 1984. She died in 2002.
