JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training, and referral resources.   

We are seeking a Child & Family Trauma Counselor to work as a consultant providing short term counseling to refugee children, youth, and families to address mental health issues resulting from trauma. In this assignment, you will be conducting comprehensive initial assessments of clients’ mental health and wellbeing, as well as providing trauma counselling for children, youth, and families using evidence-based techniques. 

This is a great opportunity if you have at minimum a Master’s Degree in a mental health field such as psychotherapy, psychology, or clinical social work. You must be registered in good standing with an applicable College and have at least 3 years of related experience as a counsellor working with children/youth and families who have experienced trauma. Advanced knowledge of and experience in the delivery of trauma-informed care is required.

This is a consultant opportunity for approximately 8 hours a month.  Ability to provide counselling in languages spoken by recent refugee populations such as Tigrinya, Dari, Pashto, and Kurmanji will be considered an asset.
