JIAS Toronto is a not for profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area.  JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training and referral resources. Position Summary

General Overview

  • As a member of the JIAS Toronto staff team, the Refugee/Settlement Worker will be responsible for the provision and evaluation of programs and services designed to promote the successful settlement and integration of new immigrants to the GTA /served by the organization. This is a unionized position. 

 
Hours of Work:

  • 9:00am-5:15pm Monday-Thursday
  • 9:00am-3:00pm Fridays

Location:

  • Lipa Green Building, 4600 Bathurst Street 
  • Lebovic Campus, 9600 Bathurst (as needed)
  • Please note that both locations are wheelchair accessible

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Language and Settlement Director and or his/her delegate, the duties and responsibilities of the position include:
  • Within framework of JIAS Toronto’s strategic plan, assess settlement/integration needs of new immigrants, establish & implement goals/objectives and activities 
  • Implement government funded program requirements to assist newly arrived immigrants
  • Build on the agency’s intake services to ensure a timely, relevant, informed and accessible service delivery system 
  • Develop and implement program initiatives to address settlement needs and connect newcomers to the community
  • Work with/coordinate volunteer efforts to support successful settlement and integration of newcomers
  • As part of staff team, organize and implement outreach initiatives that support and assist newcomers 
  • Assist the organization in determining methods to measure the effectiveness of program initiatives 
  • Inform/educate the public and develop support for practices that welcome and sustain immigrants
  • Track and identify emerging trends in immigrant service delivery and outreach
  • Contribute to agency promotional activities, including newsletter, informational materials and website 
  • Work on special events and projects as requested by the Settlement & Language Director and/or Executive Director
  • Provide reports for funders and other written reports to the Settlement/ & Language Director and/or Executive Director as required
  • Any other related duties as required by JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) Toronto
  • Providing services to ensure we meet our SAH responsibilities; completing refugee sponsorship applications in a timely manner, responding to and tracking requests for sponsorship, updating files at the request of visa posts, communicating progress of files to stakeholders, providing settlement support to refugees, their families and constituent groups
  • Building network of services for refugee population 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Human Services field or equivalent 
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Settlement sector and not for profit, community agency
  • Has strong knowledge of immigration laws and keeps up to date on changes and regulations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a professional team 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Must have strong computer /resource research skills
  • Knowledge of the PSR Program
  • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or Sundays if required
  • Fluent in English
  • Fluent in Arabic, Kurdish, Tigrinya, Hebrew, or Russian language is an asset
