Hunger is an urgent, ongoing crisis in our city. Many community members are unable to afford groceries or go days without enough to eat. In 2022, 1 in 20 Torontonians relied on food banks. In 2023, this number doubled to 1 in 10. Your gift to UJA’s Global Seder helps thousands of families access healthy food, as well as benefit from a special delivery of kosher for Passover essentials.
The story of Passover is one of pain, suffering, and ultimately, freedom. It's a story we tell every year to remind ourselves of the Jewish people's remarkable history and resilience. For Israelis, right now, this isn't history. Among the many impacts of October 7th, more than 100,000 people remain displaced from their homes. Those in the most at-risk communities need help accessing daily essentials—including food and household supplies. Through UJA’s Global Seder, combined with UJA’s emergency allocations in Israel, we’re providing displaced Israelis with the food relief and support they need. Your gift shows the people of Israel that their entire global Jewish family is with them in their darkest hour, helping them on the long road to healing.
Members of the Jewish community are struggling all over the world. Jews in Cuba experience high levels of poverty and food insecurity. The war in Ukraine continues to put a strain on Jews in the Former Soviet Union. When Jewish communities anywhere are struggling, Jews everywhere have a responsibility to help. With your support, these vulnerable Jewish communities will experience the warmth of a Passover meal even amid war and uncertainty.
