Celebrating a new chapter in the story of JF&CS

By Jo Michaels --

More than 200 participants made their way to The Lipa Green Centre’s Harold & Miriam Green Lobby on Wednesday, June 9th to celebrate the grand opening of Jewish Family & Child’s new central offices, made possible by a generous gift to UJA Federation’s Tomorrow Campaign by the Levine and Robins families.

Attending the event, which was emceed by Galit Solomon of CTV news, were JF&CS staff, volunteers, donors and funders.

Taking time out of their busy schedules to also show their support were MPPs Mike Colle, Monte Kwinter and David Zimmer, while Minister Eric Hoskins sent greetings from the Province of Ontario.

After introducing herself to the audience, Solomon disclosed that she had once been a client of the agency shortly after moving to Canada from Israel more than twenty years ago.  “Jewish Family & Child was the first place I thought of to turn,” said Solomon.

Joining Galit at the podium was Dr. Richard Cummings, executive director of JF&CS; Alan Winer, chair, UJA Federation; Ted Sokolsky, president & CEO, UJA Federation, and Sharon Shore, president of the JF&CS board of directors.

“While having great space helps, it is the staff and volunteers who really make this a great agency and community partner,” said Winer. “It is through the tireless efforts of Jewish Family and Child’s dedicated and talented staff and volunteers that we are truly making a difference in the lives of so many, and to me, that is what being a Jewish community is all about.”

“With the leadership and visionary support of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, our city’s Jewish community has made a compelling statement with the opening of these beautiful new offices,” said Dr. Cummings. “It is a statement of social justice and tikkun olam (repairing the world), in fulfillment of UJA’s mission to strengthen the quality of Jewish life.”

After the official ribbon cutting and mezuzah installation, guests made their way through the welcoming new offices of Jewish Family & Child.
