Gerry Sheff & Shanitha Kachan Make $10 Million Gift To Sherman Campus

UJA Federation of Greater Toronto’s Tomorrow Campaign is excited to announce an outstanding gift of $10 million from philanthropic community leaders, Gerald Sheff and Shanitha Kachan.  This generous and visionary gift will be directed towards Sherman Campus Phase 2, to name the new Sheff Family Building. Sherman Campus is located on Bathurst Street, north of Sheppard Avenue, and is a part of a network of Jewish community campuses built by the Tomorrow Campaign.

“We are proud to be a part of the Tomorrow Campaign, as it continues to revitalize essential centres of Jewish life across the GTA,” said Gerald Sheff.  “We believe it is important to support this campaign as the community continues to build infrastructure for today, and for future generations, as those who came before us did on our behalf.”

This outstanding gift will greatly assist in transforming Sherman Campus into a multi-faceted hub with an extensive array of social services and programs for the community. The new state-of-the-art, 100,000 sq. ft., Sheff Family Building will be prominently situated on the campus and will house dynamic spaces for arts & culture, education, health and fitness programming.

“Our vision is that the Sheff Family Building will be a special place that will enrich many lives – providing a truly transgenerational and family environment,” said Shanitha Kachan.  “We look forward to this new facility being a welcoming home for a broad cross-section of community events.”

“Gerry and Shanitha are exemplary philanthropists and community leaders,” said Fred Waks, Chair of the Sherman Campus Campaign.  “This incredible gift is nothing short of remarkable.  We are incredibly thankful for their support.  The Sheff Family Building will be an extraordinary landmark in our community.”
