UJA Federation's Shinshinim to honour the memory Yizhak Rabin z"l

November 4th  marks the 18th anniversary of the assassination of the fifth Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak Rabin, z”l.

For UJA Federation’s ShinShinim, the group of 18-year-old pre-army Israelis who spend a year in Toronto, infusing our youngsters with a deeper connection to, and love for, the state of Israel, this anniversary is particularly momentous as they were all born the year that he died, and have grown up in a country in the shadow of what his death means for Israel.

At each institution they work at, the ShinShinim are spreading the message of hope and peace, in honour of the life of Yitzhak Rabin.  In addition to the excellent work that each individual pair is doing at their institutions, they are also coming together on three separate occasions to have a greater impact on the Toronto Jewish Community and powerfully deliver the message of Yitzhak Rabin.  We welcome and invite you to join us at any or all of these events:

  1. Sunday, November 3rd from 4-5 p.m., at the Schwartz/Reisman Centre on UJA Federation’s Joseph & Wolf Lebovic Jewish Community Campus in Vaughan, in partnership with the Consulate General of Toronto, all of the ShinShinim will be participating in a commemorative and moving ceremony.
  2. Sunday, November 10th, from 7-8 p.m., at UJA Federation’s Wolfond Centre for Jewish Campus Life, please join us for “Promises of Peace: Remembering the Life of Yitzhak Rabin.”  This event was initiated and planned by our downtown ShinShinim, and is held in cooperation with UJA Federation, Hillel, Downtown Jewish Community School, First Narayever Congregation, City Shul, Miles Nadal JCC, Paul Penna Jewish Day School, Habonim Dror-Camp Gesher.
  3. Thursday, November 14th, from 9:30 a.m.—1:30 p.m. at Bialik Hebrew Day School, in partnership with the Consulate General of Toronto and UJA Federations Advocacy arm, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, the grade 8 students from Bialik and Associated Hebrew School will come together for a day devoted to conflict resolution and the legacy of Yitzhak Rabin.
