Jewish Free Loan Toronto: Making miracles happen since 1924

Jewish Free Loan Toronto was founded in 1924. Bertha Sklar, a former employee during the early 1940s, when it was called Hebrew Free Loan, recalls the social and financial challenges that the Jewish community of Toronto faced during those difficult times, and how the agency was able to help support thousands in the community on the path to financial self-sufficiency and dignity.

Today, Jewish Free Loan Toronto, which is supported through private donations and the help of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto’s generous donors, is proud to continue to help hundreds of local Jewish families in times of need. Jewish Free Loan Toronto currently has 800 active interest-free loans worth more than $3 million, continuing its mandate to ‘Help People to Help Themselves.’
