World-renowned Israeli singer David Broza in Toronto this week
On Thursday, March 18th, Hillel of Greater Toronto - UJA’s student organization – brings ARTZY, its 3rd annual multi-media art exhibit, to Toronto’s Andrew Richard Designs (571 Adelaide Street East), from 7 – 10pm. The evening will feature David Broza, a world-renowned multi-platinum Israeli singer-songwriter and guitarist, who will perform at 9:00 p.m.
Combining a passion for arts and culture with a passion for Israel, ARTZY provides an opportunity for artists and art lovers to come together and celebrate their connection to Israel. ARTZY offers an art exhibition and reception with a mixture of visual and audio art installations, live music and a sampling of Israeli and Jewish delicacies, and interactions with artists.
Broza’s soulful vocals and guitar work have earned him a number of gold and platinum albums in Israel; he has released CDs in the United States as well. Broza is currently on tour, promoting his latest collection of poems-put-to-music, Night Dawn, The Unpublished Poetry of Townes Van Zandt. The compilation stems from a tale that dates back to 1994 when the Israeli troubadour was summoned to Houston to participate in Linda Lowe’s Writers in the Round series.
The evening will also include the annual photo contest of Birthright Israel Alumni participants, the official alumni organization for Canada Israel Experience (CIE) alumni. CIE is an organization which aims to strengthen Jewish identity among Jewish youth and young adults through participation in Israel experience programs. The winner of the photo contest will be announced that evening.
ARTZY is supported by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, The National Jewish Coalition for Literacy, The Azrieli Foundation, The Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy and the Birthright Israel Alumni Community.
