Schwartz/Reisman Centre in Vaughan to be completed in Fall 2012

The Schwartz/Reisman Centre will encompass approximately 100,000 sq. ft. including the Phil Granovsky Sports & Recreation Pavilion, a cutting-edge Fitness and Conditioning Centre, the Gorman Shore Goodman Childhood Education Centre and a Community Arts Centre. The Mount Sinai Family Health and Wellness Centre on the campus is scheduled to open at the same time. Part of the growing Joseph and Wolf Lebovic Jewish Community Campus, the facility will serve all residents of York region, which is home to the fastest growing Jewish community in Canada.

“Laying the foundation for this growing, thriving Jewish community is a source of great pride for us and our family,” said Gerry Schwartz, co-chair of the Tomorrow Campaign, who along with his wife, Heather Reisman, provided the lead gift for the SRC. “The Schwartz/Reisman Centre, at the heart of this amazing campus, will be a resource – a beacon – for community members of all ages and interests.”

The opening of the Schwartz/ Centre will mark the second phase of the Lebovic Campus development, which currently is home to TanenbaumCHAT at the Kimel Family Education Centre, a Jewish Secondary School.   Future plans for the 50 acre campus also include the Reena Community Residence with 60 housing unites serving those with various physical and mental health needs, developmental disabilities, and the frail elderly, a theatre and lecture pavilion, the Leo & Sala Goldhar Conference & Celebration Centre, Bialik Hebrew Day School and The Ben and Edith Himel Family Education Centre.

The Tomorrow Campaign is building three centres of Jewish life that will serve all residents of the Greater Toronto area.  Chaired by Gerry Schwartz and Larry Tanenbaum, the project is the largest non-profit infrastructure development in Canada.  The first phase of development of Sherman Campus at Bathurst St., north of Sheppard Ave. was completed in the summer of 2009 with the opening of the new Prosserman JCC and the refurbished Lipa Green Centre for Jewish Community Services. In the downtown core, the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre completed its renovation in November, 2004, and The Wolfond Centre for Jewish Campus Life opened in February, 2004.
