52 Weeks of Food 52 Weeks of Food

Community Food Share

Food insecurity is the most urgent, ongoing crisis in Jewish Toronto. Thousands are struggling to afford groceries or going days without enough to eat. Last year, there were 2 million visits to local food banks–an all-time high.

This year we are introducing a year-long food security initiative. 52 Weeks of Food is mobilizing communities to take responsibility for one week of giving which will have a meaningful impact and provide food support to those who need it most.

A caring community is who we are. Helping those in need is what we do.

For this program to work we need individuals, families, and community organizations to sign up for one week to share the responsibility and ensure that our food banks remain well-stocked and that food assistance is readily available.

What can you do?

Choose from one of three ways to participate in 52 Weeks of Food:

Non-perishable food on a scale

Run a non-perishable food drive.

Collect a minimum of 1,000 lbs. of healthy kosher food/essential supplies, which is approximately 2,000 non-perishable items.

Your first step will be to select a drop-off location and date where you will collect all the donations you receive. Then, get the word out to your network so you can start collecting!

A gift card

Run a grocery gift card drive.

Run a grocery gift card drive raising a minimum of $1,000 in grocery gift cards.

Choose from any grocery store that offers kosher food and start purchasing gift cards in any denomination that you like. Let your network know what you’re up to and ask them to participate!

Once all the gift cards have been collected contact us and we will make a recommendation to drop the gift cards off at one of our community partners.

A money box

Sponsor a week.

Sponsor a week providing a minimum donation of $1,000. A tax receipt will be provided for your donation.

Your donation goes to UJA’s Annual Campaign in an effort to combat food insecurity in our community.
