David Wm. Brown, CFP, CLU, ChFC, RHU, TEP, Partner, Al G. Brown & Associates

David Wm. Brown is one of Canada’s foremost experts in the use of life insurance for the purpose of estate planning and charitable giving. He is a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter, Certified Health Insurance Specialist, and a Chartered Financial Consultant. David is a recognized leader in the global life insurance industry having continuously been amongst the top half of one percent of advisors for over 25 years.

As a partner at Al G Brown & Associates, David has been instrumental in creating and establishing charitable giving plans that have facilitated the donation of millions of dollars to various organizations including universities, hospitals, arts organizations, communal organizations as well as many national and international causes.

David regularly speaks at professional conferences and writes extensively about charitable giving strategies, financial and retirement planning, as well as practice management. He is both an editorial advisory board member and a contributor to Advisors’ Edge magazine.

David is a former national board member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. His professional affiliations include the Canadian Tax Foundation, Conference of Advanced Life Underwriters and Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (Canada). He was awarded the Advanced Certificate in Family Business Advising (STEP).

David has complemented his professional practice with a lifetime of communal leadership, having served as the president of Associated Hebrew Schools, the Ontario chairman of State of Israel Bonds, as well as a trustee of the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto. He has served on the boards of many communal organizations.

David lives in Toronto with his wife Helen. They have two daughters, one of whom is an advisor at Al G Brown & Associates, and have two grandchildren.

Jeffrey Gottesman, Gottesman Insurance Brokers

Jeffrey has spent the last 16 years working for Gottesman Insurance Brokers, an insurance brokerage started by his late grandfather upon immigrating to Canada after the Holocaust. He started working in the business after graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in International and Comparative Studies.

Jeffrey is committed to Jewish causes, especially in his hometown of Toronto. He is the Co-Chair of UJA’s Genesis Support Pillar, he currently sits on the board of The House as well as CJPAC’s advisory board.

Jeffrey Lives in Toronto with his wife Samantha and their three children.

Lea Koiv, CPA, CMA, CA, CFP, TEP, Principal, Lea Koiv & Associates Inc.

Lea Koiv is a highly-regarded professional with authoritative experience in the retirement, tax and estate planning fields. Located in Toronto, Lea works with other accountants and with lawyers, actuaries, business valuators and other professionals, as well as with select high-net-worth clients and families, to provide expert support and advice in respect of retirement planning and tax and estate planning.

Lea Koiv & Associates Inc. was founded in February 2016. To her professional firm, Lea brings 17 recent years of experience in the insurance and wealth management industries, in addition to prior employment in the taxation departments of major international accounting firms (KPMG, Deloitte + Touche, Arthur Andersen) and the pension and benefits industry.

Through her firm, Lea advises on a wide range of issues in the estate planning and retirement areas, including Individual Pension Plans (IPPs), pension commutations, supplemental pensions, Retirement Compensation Arrangements (RCAs), and more. Her thorough knowledge of insurance theory and practice also positions her to advise on insurance matters and products, including annuities in estate planning applications.

Lea is a keen student of legislative change. She has participated on many industry committees with a view to promoting legislation and legislative change that is well-conceived, workable and effective. Through the course of her professional career, she has identified numerous deficiencies in tax and other legislation, and has doggedly pursued having the appropriate “fixes” implemented via legislative and other channels.

In his spare time, Mark is the President of Aish Hatorah Toronto and teaches leadership and business ethics courses at the University of Toronto, York University, Ryerson University and the University of Western Ontario.

As the Chair of the Professional Advisory Committee for the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto and other non-profit boards he helps develop planned giving programs for hospitals, foundations, educational institutions and other charities.

Mark lives in Thornhill, Ontario and has been married to Rhonda for 23 years. They are kept busy with their 5 children.
