With Gratitude to Constable Jeff Smith

Jewish Federations of Canada-United Israel Appeal, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, Canadian Women Against Antisemitism, StandWithUs Canada, Allied Voices for Israel, B'nai Brith Canada, UJA, and Jewish Federations from across Canada invite you to share a message of gratitude, encouragement, or well wishes for Constable Jeff Smith following the shooting outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario. 
 
Constable Smith, a 13-year veteran of the Belleville Police Service, was seriously injured while protecting worshippers gathered for Kol Nidre services. He put his life on the line for our community, helping keep those inside the synagogue safe. His courage and selflessness represent the very best of Canada. He is a hero to us all, and his bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
 
Police officers across Canada spend Shabbat and Jewish holidays outside our synagogues and stand guard at our schools and community centres. What happened in Belleville is a devastating reminder of the danger they can face while protecting us, and why we must never take their service for granted.
 
The messages collected here will be shared with Constable Smith and his family, giving our community an opportunity to express our profound gratitude and support. We join together in wishing him a refuah shlemah—a full and speedy recovery.
