May is Jewish Heritage Month in Canada

Since 2018, May has officially been recognized as Canadian Jewish Heritage Month! This is an opportunity to discover and celebrate Jewish culture, faith, and history, as well as the tremendous contributions of Jewish communities to our country’s social, political, and economic fabric.

UJA brings Canadian Jewish heritage to life by unlocking the full potential of our community. Through a wide network of programs and partners, we educate, celebrate, and connect people across the GTA and beyond, including:

Jewish Education. UJA supports a diverse network of Jewish day schools and part-time programs across the GTA. Spanning the religious, pedagogical, and cultural spectrum of our community, these programs foster identity during key formative years while ensuring families of all Jewish backgrounds and traditions feel welcome.

Summer Camps. A longstanding tradition, Jewish camps offer generations of young Canadians opportunities for connection, learning, and belonging—creating lifelong friendships and a strong sense of community.

Jewish Community Centres. Our JCCs—Miles Nadal, Prosserman, and Schwartz/Reisman—are vibrant hubs for culture, wellness, learning, and connection, supporting the enrichment of Jewish life across the GTA.

Arts and Culture. The arts play a vital role in shaping Jewish identity, fostering identity and belonging. This vibrant expression thrives through UJA’s Kultura Collective, alongside partners like the Ashkenaz Festival, Toronto Jewish Film Festival, Koffler Arts, and more.

Ontario Jewish Archives. As the largest repository of Jewish life in Canada, the OJA, a department of UJA, acquires and preserves community memories by sharing stories through exhibits, public programs, and digital collections.

UJA’s Toronto Holocaust Museum. Through immersive education, the Museum preserves survivor stories, educates thousands annually, and deepens public understanding on Holocaust education, antisemitism, and human rights, while highlighting local survivors’ contributions to Canada.

JHub. Powered by UJA, JHub provides meaningful and engaging Jewish programming for community members of all ages and stages across the GTA and beyond. Signature programs include PJ Library, March of the Living, OneTable, Israel volunteer trips, Diller Teen Fellows, and many more.

As we mark Canadian Jewish Heritage Month, we invite you to explore, engage, and tell the story of Jewish life. By celebrating our heritage and investing in our future, we ensure that Jewish identity, culture, and community continue to thrive for generations to come.
