Position Summary:  

The Associate Director, JCares & Community Mobilization is responsible for leading and expanding JCares, the MNjcc’s rapid-response initiative designed to mobilize volunteers while strengthening connection and affinity to the MNjcc. JCares responds to the immediate and evolving needs of the downtown community through coordinated service initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and strategic partnerships.

This role combines strategic leadership, partnership development, volunteer engagement, and hands-on program implementation. The Associate Director will elevate JCares as a key community impact initiative, positioning the MNjcc as a hub where individuals, families, and community partners can translate Jewish values into meaningful action.

The Associate Director will design scalable program models, develop signature community impact events, and implement systems to track participation and measure outcomes. By combining strategic vision with operational execution, this role will grow JCares into a recognized platform for community mobilization, engaging individuals and volunteers in collective action that strengthens community care, allyship, and civic engagement.

 

Schedule Information

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week/regular schedule. 
  • Some evening and weekend work is required.
  • This position is an in-person role and requires working on-site.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

  • Lead the strategic direction, growth, and visibility of the JCares initiative as a flagship community impact platform.
  • Identify emerging community needs and design responsive initiatives that address social service challenges while expanding community participation and impact.
  • Strengthen the MNjcc’s role as a hub for community care, engagement, and social impact.
  • Establish annual goals and strategic priorities for JCares that align with the MNjcc’s mission and community impact objectives.
  • Work cross-departmentally to integrate service initiatives with cultural programming, holiday activations, and broader community engagement strategies.
  • Ensure Jewish values are reflected in all initiatives.

 

Community Partnerships & Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with local social service agencies, community organizations, and grassroots initiatives.
  • Coordinate volunteer support, resources, and collaborative service projects that directly benefit partner agencies and the communities they serve.
  • Represent the MNjcc at community tables, partnership meetings, and collaborative service networks.

 

Volunteer Mobilization & Community Engagement

  • Design and implement meaningful volunteer opportunities that engage individuals, families, corporate groups, and community members of all ages.
  • Develop accessible entry points for participation, including hands-on initiatives, ongoing volunteer programs, and large-scale community service events.
  • Create systems to recruit, manage, and retain volunteers while ensuring a positive and impactful volunteer experience.
  • Mobilize large numbers of community members to participate in high-impact service initiatives throughout the year.
  • Develop and oversee major community service activations including pop-up volunteer events, seasonal drives, and large-scale service projects.
  • Manage planning, logistics, partnerships, and volunteer coordination for all community mobilization events.
  • Position the MNjcc as a central hub for community mobilization and civic engagement in downtown Toronto.

 

Program Management & Implementation

  • Oversee the day-to-day planning, implementation, and evaluation of JCares initiatives.
  • Manage budgets, operational logistics, and program resources to ensure effective execution.
  • Develop operational systems that allow initiatives to scale efficiently while maintaining quality and impact.

 

Impact Measurement & Storytelling

 

  • Track and measure program outcomes including volunteer engagement, resources distributed, community members served, and partnership growth.
  • Develop reporting tools that demonstrate the impact of JCares initiatives to internal stakeholders, funders, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to share stories of impact and inspire broader community participation.

  • Proven leadership experience in community engagement, social services, nonprofit management, or community mobilization.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and scaling programs or initiatives with measurable impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize volunteers and inspire community participation.
  • Strategic thinker with strong operational and implementation skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management abilities.

Salary and Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $72,000 to $80,000 commensurate with experience.
