
Communications and Marketing Manager
Beth Sholom is a dynamic synagogue with a range of vibrant and creative events and programs. Located at Eglinton and the Allen Road, we are in a thriving area being redeveloped and gentrified. At 1,000 Households and growing with young families, Beth Sholom is positioned to make a significant impact in the Jewish landscape of Toronto. Beth Sholom is undergoing a major Capital Renovation in the early summer of 2026 that will be a game-changer for synagogue engagement in the Cedervale/Forest Hill areas.
The Opportunity
Beth Sholom seeks a creative, strategic, and technically savvy Marketing and Communications Manager to lead daily communications and marketing across email, website, social media, and program and membership campaigns. This role will shape Beth Sholom's story, ensuring clear, engaging, and consistent communication that supports membership engagement, education, and community programming. In addition to marketing, and as a member-based religious organization, Beth Sholom places a strong emphasis on service. This role approaches communications as a form of service, partnering closely with staff and clergy and responding thoughtfully to member needs to ensure communications are timely, helpful, and community centred.
The successful candidate is a self-starter who plans and executes campaigns, manages digital channels, and collaborates with internal teams and external partners to bring initiatives to life and strengthen Beth Sholom’s visibility and connection with its community. They take initiative and bring fresh ideas to enhance engagement, backed by proven communication and marketing campaign experience, social media expertise, digital know-how, strong project management skills, and an organized, collaborative approach that enables them to translate ideas into high-quality materials that engage a diverse community.
Knowledge of the Jewish community, Jewish ritual, history and customs, and the Hebrew language would be a tremendous asset. Excellent customer service skills, and highly organized and detail-oriented attributes are a must. Ability to manage and thrive in a fast-paced work environment, contribute to the staff team and be team player, and have a strong work ethic.
This position reports to the Executive Director. This is a full-time, in-person role.
Responsibilities
Membership Communications and Program Marketing
- Plan, design, and publish weekly email communications, posters, brochures, invitations, and other materials to support membership engagement, education, and community programs.
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns to drive membership retention and growth, and highlight Beth Sholom’s supplementary school, youth and adult programs.
Skills: Project management, email marketing (Mail Chimp or similar), storytelling, graphic design, campaign strategy.
Website Management
- Maintain and update the website’s design and content to ensure accuracy and engagement.
- Use Google Analytics and other tools to evaluate website performance and implement improvements to enhance user experience.
Skills: WordPress (or other CMS) experience, technically savvy with expertise in plug-ins and other website integrations, knowledge of Google Analytics and SEO, data-driven decision-making, strong consumer-focused writing skills.
Social media management
- Develop a social media calendar, content plan, and marketing strategy.
- Create and execute engaging, trend-informed content across Beth Sholom’s social media platforms.
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics to assess impact and refine strategies for optimal engagement.
Skills: Creativity, social media marketing (organic and paid), data analysis, social media platform expertise (Instagram, Facebook and YouTube), design and video editing
Administration
- Maintain and implement Beth Sholom’s style guide, ensuring consistent application of brand standards across all communications.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, including printers, designers, and technology providers.
- Maintain an annual calendar of holidays, services, programs, and events to support coordinated planning and communications.
- Organize and maintain a comprehensive library of photos, marketing materials, and other digital assets.
Skills: Attention to detail, self-starter, organized, relationship builder and team player
Additional qualifications:
- Degree or certificate in communications and/or marketing, or 3+ years experience
- Familiarity with Jewish customs, holidays, and lifecycle rituals beneficial and/or an interest to learn. Knowledge of the Hebrew language an asset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint), experience working with Shul Cloud (or a similar database) and/or the ability to learn new software
- Proficiency with design software: Canva, InDesign, Publisher, etc…
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
