
COMMUNICATIONS LEAD
Reporting to: Senior Director of Marketing and Development

Position: Full Time, Maternity Leave Contract
THE ORGANIZATION
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a non-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.
THE POSITION
The communications lead will be someone who possesses strong writing and research skills, is detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that involves producing written and visual content, media relations and social media management. This is a dynamic role, reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Development, with a primary responsibility for communicating the organization’s advocacy and educational efforts and keeping the organization in the public eye.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
The Communications Lead regularly monitors the news and tracks incidents, discussing relevant issues with the advocacy director, in addition to:
Content Writing & Design
- Write press releases and media advisories regarding the organization’s advocacy and educational initiatives
- Produce e-blasts and e-newsletters that are sent out to the organization’s donor database
Media Relations
- Send out press releases and media advisories to the media
- Follow up with and pitch stories to reporters and other members of the media
- Handle interview requests and questions from the media
- Regularly update internal media lists, add new contacts to lists
- Develop talking points and backgrounders for the media spokesperson
Social Media
- Post and share content on social media pages, including X, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
- Respond to messages and monitor comments
Website Management
- Publish written content on the website
- Regularly monitor and update website pages
- Occasionally communicate with the web designer for certain changes
