Seeking Director of Spiritual Engagement

Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda Synagogue (BEBY) a large, traditional synagogue in Toronto is seeking a dynamic professional to serve as Director of Spiritual Engagement. BEBY is seeking to grow and maintain a welcoming, vibrant and meaningful Jewish experience for young professionals and the over 25 age cohort.

As Director of Spiritual Engagement (DSE), of Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda (“BEBY” or the “Synagogue”) you will develop and implement social, educational, spiritual, religious and ritual programming for the Synagogue in a manner that is sensitive to the needs of the congregation, with an emphasis on the 25 – 45 age cohort. You will be a role model to the congregation and the Jewish community at large, in terms of traditional religious observance, “derech eretz” and community involvement.

The ideal candidate for this role is/has:

  • Extroverted, energetic and passionate about Jewish life and culture with a deep commitment to Jewish values, traditions and community
  • A relationship builder with superior interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • A self-starter who is keen to take initiative and can work collaboratively with clergy, staff and volunteers
  • Proven experience in program developments, community engagement and leadership within a Jewish communal setting
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities with a track record of executing successful programs
  • A degree in Jewish studies, education or a related field would be an asset
  • May be an ordained rabbi, but is not a requirement for the role

This role reports to: Executive Director/Senior Rabbi

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, plan, implement and evaluate a wide range of meaningful and creative Jewish spiritual and educational programming targeting the desired cohort
  • Develop, build and maintain relationships, fostering a sense of belonging in our community
  • Serve as clergy support, working collaboratively with the Senior Rabbi, to create opportunities for meaningful and engaging worship and programming that resonate with our community
