Role Summary

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about camp and committed to supporting children of all ages. The Centre Camp Student Nurse is an essential member of our team, responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well-being of all campers and staff. This includes providing basic first aid, managing daily health needs, maintaining accurate medical records, and helping create a safe and inclusive camp environment.

The Student Nurse works closely with the Camp Nurse to ensure all health-related procedures are followed. They assist with monitoring allergies, medications, and specific medical needs, ensuring they are fully prepared to support the safety of campers and staff throughout the camp day.

Key responsibilities:

  • Daily Tasks
    • Provide first aid and basic medical care to campers and staff as needed.
    • Support the management of daily medications, ensuring proper documentation and safe administration.
    • Respond to health-related concerns promptly and professionally, following camp protocols.
    • Monitor campers with ongoing or emerging health needs and communicate concerns to the Camp Nurse and Leadership Staff as appropriate
    • Participate in ongoing mentorship from the Camp Nurse, applying feedback and growing clinical judgment in a camp setting.
  • Records and Documentation
    • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all campers.
    • Track medical incidents, treatments, and medication administration.
    • Assist in reviewing camper health forms prior to and during camp sessions.
    • Ensure all camper and staff medical information remains confidential unless otherwise specified
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding medical incidents or ongoing health concerns as needed.
    • Collaborate with counsellors, specialists, and leadership to support campers with specific health needs.
    • Be visible and accessible to staff and campers, offering proactive support and guidance.
    • Promote healthy practices throughout the camp (hydration, sun safety, hygiene reminders, etc.).
    • Work with the Camp Nurse to communicate any medical concerns and allergies to Unit Heads and Leadership.

Key Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a recognized nursing program (RPN, RN, BScN, or equivalent).
  • Current CPR-C certification (higher-level certifications are an asset).
  • Experience working with children or in a camp, childcare, or community health setting is an asset.
  • Compassionate, patient, and able to support diverse camper needs.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in medical or emergency situations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to maintain confidential records
