The Importance of Sleep for Physical and Mental Health

 

Please join UJA’s Health Care division and Dr. Marla Shapiro C.M. for the second in a series of three highly informative and engaging webinars exploring topics on mental health resilience during strenuous times.

 

This second session will feature Dr. David Klein, M.D., FRCP(C), ABIM, a Senior Physician at MedSleep Canada and an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Toronto. Dr. Shapiro C.M. and Dr. Klein will discuss the importance of sleep and its critical relationship to physical and mental health. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and learn strategies on how to sleep better and improve overall health.

SPEAKERS

Dr. Marla Shapiro C.M.

Dr. Marla Shapiro C.M. completed medical school at McGill University and trained at the University of Toronto for her Masters of Health Science. She concluded her specialty training in Community Medicine, receiving her Fellowship in Preventive Medicine and Public Health from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She also holds a Fellowship in Family Medicine and is currently a professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Marla Shapiro C.M. can be seen on CTV NewsChannel. She is the author of the bestselling book Life in the Balance: My Journey with Breast Cancer.

In 2015, Dr. Marla Shapiro C.M. was named a Member of the Order of Canada for her contributions as a family physician and trusted source of health information. One of this country’s highest civilian honours, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community, and service to the nation. 

Dr. David Klein

Dr. David Klein, M.D., FRCP(C), ABIM is a Senior Physician at MedSleep Canada and is board certified in sleep medicine, as well as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Toronto. He has been practicing sleep medicine since 2006 and sees over 1,000 sleep disorder patients per year with a wide variety of problems in locations across Ontario and Alberta. He is also an author of the Ontario guidelines for sleep medicine practice, a noted researcher and presenter on the treatment of different sleep disorders, and a leader in the training and assessment of sleep physicians and other personnel across the country.
