A record-breaking crowd adorned in blue and white, waving Israeli and Canadian flags, walked along Bathurst Street in Toronto on Sunday for the UJA’s annual Walk with Israel. The event celebrated community while serving as a powerful show of solidarity against rising antisemitism in Canada. UJA Federation of Greater Toronto said Toronto Police Service estimated attendance at 60,000 people, surpassing last year’s turnout and “making it the largest turnout in the event’s 57-year history.”
“It’s been a fabulous day,” said UJA’s chief development officer Sara Lefton. “Lots of allies, lots of members of the Jewish community. The mood is certainly very celebratory and strong.”
“What we witnessed today was an extraordinary expression of solidarity, Jewish pride, and hope,” UJA’s president and CEO Adam Minsky said. “Tens of thousands of people chose to come together publicly and proudly in support of our community, our values, and our connection to Israel.”
A heartfelt thank you to the Jewish Security Network (JSN), Toronto Police Service, other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, security personnel, and community partners who helped keep this year’s Walk safe and secure.
