As Israel enters the third week of sustained conflict, donor support is proving critical—not only in responding to immediate needs, but in ensuring communities are prepared, protected, and supported under ongoing threat.
In Eilat/Eilot, UJA’s decades-long partnership is now being tested in real time. What was once a focus on preparedness has rapidly shifted to direct response, as recent missile barrages—including strikes on residential areas—have brought the reality of war to this southern region.
Because of sustained donor investment over many years, the infrastructure to respond was already in place.
UJA Impact in Action
- Emergency preparedness. Long-term investments in programs like JReady and Olamot are enabling co-ordinated municipal response, strengthening first responders’ capacity, and delivering resilience training to thousands of residents
- Healthcare. Yoseftal Hospital’s emergency capacity—supported by UJA nearly a decade ago—is now playing a critical role in delivering care in this remote region
- Education. Schools have transitioned to remote learning, maintaining continuity and stability for children under ongoing threat, with readiness to reopen when safe
This is the impact of long-term partnership: systems built in advance that can be immediately activated when crisis hits.
The Current Reality on the Ground
- 4,000+ injured
- 3,500+ displaced
- Hospitals operating in emergency mode, with thousands of admissions since late February
As the situation continues to evolve, the importance of sustained, strategic investment is clear. In Eilat, donor support is not only helping communities respond—it is ensuring they can do so with strength, co-ordination, and resilience.
