Nate Leipciger, who will be 99 years old next year, is planning to participate in his 23rd trip to Poland and Israel with March of the Living—more than any other Holocaust survivor. Leipciger has one message to potential participants for the 2027 program: this moment in history is impossible to ignore. "We live in a world threatened by bigotry, lies, the distortion of history, and unbridled antisemitism," the prominent Holocaust educator said. "As you enter and navigate this unstable and uncertain world, you must decide for yourselves who you are and what you stand for. Do not let hatred define you."
This year's program runs over two dates: May 1-16, 2027, for Grade 11 high school students and adult participants (ages 40+), and May 1-13, 2027, for university students and young professionals, in partnership with Hillel Ontario (ages 18-35). This year’s calendar is particularly notable—only once every few years do the program dates align for university students to join the trip in its entirety. This includes when thousands of people from around the world march from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Yom HaShoah and continue on to Israel for Yom HaZikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut. Leipciger carries a responsibility to speak on behalf of those millions who did not survive "with deep conviction." But the true responsibility, he urges, "to remember, to speak, and to ensure that the Holocaust is never forgotten, passes on to you.”
