Learn more from our keynote speaker about the Yad Vashem’s vast trove
of Holocaust-era materials.
Yad Vashem, The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, opened its doors in Jerusalem in 1957.
Dedicated to preserving the memory of the Jews who were murdered by the Nazis, the museum has become the second-most visited tourist site in Israel after the Western Wall.
Among the documents collected by Yad Vashem are Pages of Testimony (PoT). These are one-page documents submitted by survivors, relatives, or friends designed to restore the personal identities and brief life stories of each individual victim. To date, over 3 million Pages of Testimony have been amassed.
In 2004, Yad Vashem began digitizing and uploading these pages into a free searchable database. This enables family members, genealogists, and other researchers to use the archive from the comfort of their own homes. Yad Vashem has also added innumerable other Holocaust related resources to the website.
Steven Brock will give us a brief, insightful history of the museum, and will guide us through a step-by-step demonstration of how to get the most out of the extensive collections and powerful on-line research tools.
