Featuring Prof. David Novak, J. Richard and Dorothy Shiff Chair of Jewish Studies Emeritus at the University of Toronto Medical Assistance in Dying accounts for 5% of all deaths in Canada and the number is rising. MAID can be requested by individuals whose death is not reasonably foreseeable and one day may be requested by advanced directive in cases of future mental incapacity, including dementia. This program will not focus on the permissibility of receiving or administering MAID within Jewish law. Rather, we will examine what the consequences and meaning of MAID in our society and on the conception of the life’s inherent sanctity. Also featuring Amanda Achtman and Rabbi Adam Cutler.
