SPEAKERS

Matthew Sachs, COO, Peak Power

Matthew has fifteen years of technical experience in the energy and real estate development sectors. He has held numerous senior roles from an energy consultant, where he evaluated renewable energy technologies for utilities and government programs to a property developer, where he oversaw the construction of over 1,500 energy efficient homes for over $550M in revenue. Prior to joining Peak Power, Matthew was General Manager of Urbandale Construction, a leading Ottawa home-builder specializing in energy efficient home appliances. Matthew also served as Vice-Chair of the R-2000 Renewal Committee (2009-2014) and a Member of the Energy Star Technical Advisory Committee (2011-2014). Matthew is a nationally recognized expert in energy efficiency in buildings and was recognized by the Ottawa Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” award in 2013.

Vik Chawla, Principal, Fifth Wall

Previously, Vik was an investment associate at Echelon Asset Management, a special situations fixed income hedge fund focused on the non-bank lending asset class, where he led the firm’s fundamental due diligence processes.


Vik began his career at The Blackstone Group where he worked on advisory transactions spanning the energy, real estate, and financial services spaces. Vik is from Danville, CA, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he received his BS in economics with concentrations in finance & statistics and a minor in mathematics. Vik additionally co-founded the Kairos Society, the largest and most recognized global network of entrepreneurs under the age of 25, during his years as an undergraduate.

Amy Erixon, Principal, Managing Director – Investments, Avison Young

Amy Erixon founded and heads Avison Young’s Global Investment Management practice which is active across all major and select specialty property types in Canada, the US, Mexico, Germany and UK on behalf of major institutional investors.


Prior to joining Avison, she was CEO of IGRI, a full service development and investment firm that built the first LEED certified projects across Canada in the mid 2000s. With more than 30 years of industry experience she has acquired, developed, and repositioned portfolios valued in excess of $9 billion, and completed large scale rezoning and development projects in numerous North American cities. Amy is a member of Avison’s Executive Committee, and leads its Investment Committee. She is a founding member of both the Sustainability and Fund Governance committees of REALpac, and participates in its CEO council. She serves on the Ontario Board of the Nature Conservancy of Canada, and is a past board member of several publicly traded Canadian REITs. She is an active member of the ULI Responsible Property Investing Council, the Carbon Impact Initiative, and serves on MIT’s Educational Council. A recognized industry leader in real estate technology, greening strategies and smart cities she has advised public agencies, pensions and federal, state and local governments on issues ranging from affordable housing to ecological urbanism. With a B.S. and M.C.P. in City Planning and Real Estate Development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she is an active speaker, blogger and publisher of topical reports.
