Dr. Michele Foster is a clinical psychologist and the co-director of Toronto Psychology & Wellness Group (TPWG), a multi-disciplinary clinic in mid-town Toronto that provides evidence-based mental health treatment to adolescents, families, and adults. Dr. Foster’s area of expertise is in the treatment of disordered eating and associated emotion dysregulation difficulties, specifically self-harm, suicidality, and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression.
Dr. Foster received her Doctoral degree from the University of Toronto. Her research focused on the representation of gender and embodiment in children’s media, exploring the messages youth receive from an early age regarding the expectations of how they ought to look, think, and live in their bodies across their lifespan. Dr. Foster completed clinical training at the Hospital for Sick Children, as well as in Toronto General Hospital’s Outpatient Eating Disorder Program. Her psychological residency was at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences in the outpatient Mood and Anxiety Program, the Borderline Personality Self-Regulation Clinic, and the inpatient units assessing and treating young adults experiencing first-episode psychosis.
Dr. Foster regularly provides consultation to schools and colleges throughout Toronto, offering workshops for parents and teachers on how to best support adolescents and young adults. She possesses a love of the arts and frequently liaises with institutions in this domain to facilitate the prevention and treatment of disordered eating and mental health challenges among athletes, dancers, and entertainers.
Dr. Foster is passionate about teaching concrete skills to empower individuals to improve their lives, and does so in a manner that is validating, approachable, and collaborative. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, arranging flowers, spending time with family and friends, and consuming too much coffee.
