Marni Pernica, Partner, Aird & Berlis LLP

Marni Pernica is a Partner at Aird & Berlis LLP and a member of the firm’s Tax Group, Estates & Trusts Group and Estates & Succession Planning Group. Her practice focuses on estate, income tax and succession planning, including cross-border planning, planning to reduce estate administration tax (formerly known as probate fees), the preparation of wills, powers of attorney and trusts, and assisting with estate administration. Additionally, Marni advises clients on how to reduce personal and corporate tax, including the effective use of a family trust. Marni is a member of the OBA Trusts and Estates Section Executive, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Marni has been an active participant at UJA and the Jewish Foundation, sitting on the Professional Advisory Committee at the Jewish Foundation for the last few years.

Ali Spinner, Partner, Tax, Crowe Soberman LLP

Alexandra (Ali) Spinner is a partner in the firm’s Tax Group and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Ali is involved in all aspects of the firm’s domestic and international tax practices. She is also experienced in estate and trust planning, corporate reorganizations and voluntary disclosure applications. Ali specializes in complex tax matters relating to business acquisitions and divestitures, estate freezes, post-mortem tax planning, tax due diligence, and corporate and estate tax returns.

With 19 years of experience in public accounting and tax, Ali provides invaluable insight and expertise to each client scenario. She supports clients in their business planning and day-to-day decision-making. What Ali enjoys most is creating quality relationships with clients.

Ali is a past lecturer in the Commerce Program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program, and the School of Accountancy Tax Program administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. In 2016, Ali was named a winner of the prestigious M&A Advisor Emerging Leaders Award (Top 40 Under 40). In 2015, Ali was the recipient of CPA Ontario and the Institute for Management & Innovation at the University of Toronto’s Alumni Award.

Emily Ben-Haim, Vice-President, Client Wealth Management, Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc.

Ms. Ben-Haim is a Vice-President on Gluskin Sheff’s Client Wealth Management team and a registered Portfolio Manager focusing on client relationship management, portfolio & risk management and business development for private clients. In addition, Emily leads the firm’s Women’s Events Series, and spearheads the NEXTGEN events series. Ms. Ben-Haim holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Stern School of Business at New York University and received an Honours Business Administration degree, with distinction, from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College in New York. Ms. Ben-Haim has also earned her Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designation. Prior to joining Gluskin Sheff in 2016, Ms. Ben-Haim was a member of J.P. Morgan’s Wealth Management team in New York and thereafter part of their Investment Bank covering Institutional Sales in London, England. Prior thereto, Ms. Ben-Haim worked for Morgan Stanley's Risk Management team. Preceding her financial services career, Ms. Ben-Haim served in the Israeli Defense Forces - General Chief of Staff Bureau and was subsequently selected Senior Procurement Officer for the Israeli Defense Ministry – Delegation to the USA. Ms. Ben-Haim is a committee member of Art Toronto, and a board member of Best Buddies, a charitable organization that supports children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Yulia Rosenberg, Wealth Advisor, Scotia Wealth Management

Yulia brings over 20 years of experience in capital markets. Prior to Scotia Wealth Management, she was a Vice President with Connor Clark & Lunn ($70 billion asset management fund) advising institutional clients, families and foundations. Prior to that, Yulia was an Investment Banker helping private companies go public and grow by acquisition (over $10 billion in transactions) and at Merrill Lynch she navigated clients through the tech bubble in the early 2000s.

Yulia has an extensive background in mathematics and finance and completed both Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degrees at the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto) and has additional professional qualifications including: WME I & II, CSC, DFC, OLC, EMPD.

In addition to taking care of her clients, Yulia is raising her two sons with her husband and is keenly involved in the community, serving on the Art Gallery of Ontario Corporate Development Board, ORT Toronto committee and Upper Canada College Parent Organization.

Ethel Weiner, Wealth Consultant, Cidel Asset Management

Ethel Weiner works closely with clients across Cidel’s wealth management platform, ensuring the highest level of service by integrating Cidel’s three areas of expertise: Asset Management, Planning, Structuring and Trust, and Specialized Banking. Prior to joining Cidel, she worked in the not-for-profit sector in New York and Toronto. Ethel earned her BA and MA from Tufts University in Medford, MA. She holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation. Ethel is passionate about community involvement; she is a member of the Integrated Development Committee at UJA-Federation of Greater Toronto and a Campaign Cabinet Member at SickKids Hospital.
