The “Jewish day school for today’s generation”, Bialik is proud to offer top quality Jewish education to almost 1,400 students at the midtown-Toronto Viewmount Branch, and at the Himel Branch located on the Joseph & Wolf Lebovic Jewish Community Campus in Vaughan.

The Himel Branch:
The Ben and Edith Himel Education Centre on the Joseph & Wolf Lebovic Jewish Community Campus opened in 2013 with 67 students and one class each in Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1. Over the past eight years, the Himel Branch has experienced exponential growth and is now a thriving community of 540 students and multiple classes in each grade (JK through Grade 8). The branch comprises two buildings- Himel East and Himel West - in facilities that include a beautiful new gym, additional classrooms, STEM Labs and communal learning spaces.

The Opportunity:
Bialik has an exceptional opportunity for a passionate, visionary educational leader with exemplary skills as a hands-on administrator, community leader, planner and faculty/staff mentor.The Principal is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the functioning of the Himel Branch.

This includes:

  • Creating a positive school culture – a sense of pride and belonging – among all Bialik stakeholders,
  • Being a role model for the Bialik community,
  • Showing good judgment, wisdom and integrity in decision-making,
  • Handling crisis situations rationally and calmly,
  • Effecting positive change as identified in the strategic plans,
  • Liaising with the Parent Teacher Association (“PTA”) to ensure the smooth and efficient running of all PTA programs at each branch,
  • Developing a collaborative team culture among the Admin Team and staff, and
  • Liaising with each other to ensure that both branches work together to deliver the same high quality of programs and activities.


The ideal candidate will bring the following skills and experiences:

  • A proven track record as an educational leader and administrator.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large and complex organization in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate vision, mission, values and ideas in a charismatic, consensus building, persuasive manner to all constituencies, especially faculty, staff, Board Members, parents and donors.
  • Ability to see the “big picture” and maintain a strategic overview in addressing problems and planning solutions in a results-oriented manner. Vision to develop and advocate for new and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to promote and foster educational excellence, including raising the standards and value of Jewish and General Studies programming and enhancing teachers’ performance.
  • An open and collaborative management and leadership style. Comfortable with soliciting input from others while still being decisive and independent in the decision-making process.
  • Strong supervisory and evaluation skills to monitor staff objectively and hold them accountable for expected results.
  • Excellent people skills. A warm, honest and fair approach in dealing with others. Ability to interact and engage comfortably with a wide variety of key constituents including Board Members, parents, students, major donors and community leaders.
  • Knowledge of, and personal commitment to, Jewish ideals, values, history, ritual and practice.
  • Highly knowledgeable of, sensitive to, and genuine respect for all streams of Judaism and openness to a variety of ritual and practice.
  • Hebrew language skills considered an asset.
