Update: Israeli Security Advisory

Today, the Israeli government issued an advisory related to the safety of Israelis and Jewish communities worldwide.

This comes in the wake of the Iranian regime and its affiliated terrorist groups vowing to attack Israel, following the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. In its advisory, the Israeli government notes the possibility of attacks on Israeli and/or Jewish targets abroad. It recommends heightened vigilance, awareness, and precautions at this tense time.

It is important to note that the advisory was issued on a generalized and global level. There are many local factors that shape the security environment in different parts of the Jewish Diaspora.

UJA Community Security is coordinating with Jewish organizations across the GTA as well as law enforcement, Canadian national security authorities, and our security partners in the broader Jewish world.

As we shared this week, we have also formally requested that law enforcement increase their visible presence in our Jewish community. Toronto Police have today confirmed they are doing so and we can expect to see a heightened police presence. We remain in communication with York Regional Police about this matter and will keep the community updated.

We will keep this email list informed with credible and accurate information related to our collective security. Should we ever receive information to suggest a specific or imminent threat, we will alert our community without delay.

We remind community members of the importance of healthy vigilance and awareness. If you see something suspicious, please trust your instincts and call 911 immediately for emergency response. When safe, please report incidents to UJA Community Security at 416-635-5600 so that we can coordinate with Jewish institutions across the community as well as police.

As we continue to monitor the security situation, we keep in mind the fact that today marks 300 days of hostages being held by terrorists in Gaza. We continue to pray for their safety—and for their swift return to their loved ones—along with the safety of all Israelis and our global Jewish community.

Sincerely,

UJA Community Security
