Oops! Errors in the book

 

When the call went out for Go-To recipes, the Toronto Jewish community submitted hundreds of their best. The Bathurst Street Kitchen Cabinet and our dozens of committed volunteers had the gigantic task of going through all of them and not only selecting the 300 that would ultimately be included in the final cookbook, but reading and editing the recipe for consistency and readability. 

 

For example, imagine making sure that every time garlic is mentioned, it has to say “garlic cloves, minced” instead of “cloves of garlic, chopped” or “chopped cloves of garlic” or “minced garlic” or any of the other variations that were submitted.  Our volunteers went through every recipe, making sure they all sounded the same. They also read every recipe to ensure that, just because you’ve made it 1000 times and you know that when you do this, you do that next, doesn’t mean that a new cook will know that.  They did all of this, assuming that the recipes were submitted correctly; that there hadn’t been a typo; a 2 entered where there should have been a 3 or a teaspoon where it really should have been a tablespoon.

 

We know that there will be some errors, and we ask your forgiveness. We also ask for your comments and suggestions and corrections, so that future printing of the cookbook can be right, and so that other cooks can note modifications.
