Gerda Frieberg Teen Philanthropy Award

UJA Federation’s Gerda Frieberg Teen Philanthropy Award shines a spotlight and identifies exceptional teens in the Toronto Jewish community who are involved in inspiring tzedakah, tikkun olam and leadership. The Gerda Frieberg Teen Philanthropy Award teaches that philanthropy and leadership at any age is paramount for the future of Jewish Toronto.

Koby Gottlieb

Koby’s first exposure to volunteering was in Middle School when he participated in J-Serve’s Day of Volunteering. This event lit a spark in Koby for community involvement. Koby was then selected as a member of the Jewish Teen Board (JTB). Through JTB, Koby was exposed to the incredible work of UJA and its partner agencies. Being a part of JTB was a stepping-stone to being selected as a Diller Teen Fellow. Through Diller, Koby connected with teens from Toronto’s partner community of Eilat-Eilot, with whom he strengthened bridges between the Diaspora and Israel. In addition, Koby packed boxes for the vulnerable during the Pandemic and made wellness check-in calls. The time at home also presented Koby with the opportunity to begin a successful TikTok channel with the support of the Israeli Ministry of Strategic Affairs to combat antisemitism.

Additionally, Koby has volunteered in Kenya and Costa Rica and sits on the Jewish Engagement Committee. He is a Madrich and School Ambassador at Tanenbaum CHAT, and he recently returned from a conference in Los Angeles as part of his internship with StandWithUs.
